ABOUT CHIROPRACTIC...

History of chiropractic | Torque Release | Find a Chiropractor | FAQ

Chiropractic comes from the Greek word chiropraktikos which means "effective treatment by hand".

Chiropractors use their hands as their main treatment method.  Because as Chiropractors we realize that our bodies have this incredible ability to self heal and self regulate.

Every person has intelligent signals which communicate to all organs, tissues and cells in their body.  These signals are controlled by our nervous system.  The bulk of this nervous system is called the CNS or central nervous system, and it lies encased in our skulls and spinal bones or vertebras.

If interference occurs within the skull or spinal bones it effects how efficiently these intelligent signals are sent and received, thus effecting the way the body recognizes and reacts to itself.

As Chiropractors we are trained to detect and correct these interferences which we call vertebral subluxations.  Subluxations left uncorrected decrease the body's capacity to self heal and self regulate, which creates a state of DIS-EASE or lack of wholeness, coordination and harmony.  When you are experiencing DIS-EASE, stress can overwhelm you and exhaustion, illness, disease and eventually death can effect your physical body.

Chiropractors are trained to deliver chiropractic adjustments which interrupt this pattern of disturbance, this stimulates and reconnects the intelligent signals with the rest of the body.  Thus allowing the body to express itself to the very best of it's potential.

In this office we view health as the "optimal physical, mental and social well being; not merely the absence of disease and infirmity." - Dorlands Dictionary

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)...
History of chiropractic | Torque Release | Find a Chiropractor | FAQ

Q. What is a Subluxation?
A.
A Subluxation (also referred to as nerve interference) is caused when the spinal bones become misaligned due to physical, chemical or emotional stress.  This interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the nervous system, resulting in a lessening of the body's innate ability to express its maximum potential for health.

Q. What do Chiropractors do?
A. Chiropractors are trained to ensure your nervous system is free of spinal nerve interference. Wellness Chiropractors promote whole body care or a state of  health where your body is free of spinal nerve interference, allowing your body to function to its maximum potential. They help you to achieve this state by looking at your spine for any nerve interference within your spinal column and with specific chiropractic adjustments, correct them. Your body is then free to heal itself, express itself and function at an optimal level!

Q. What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A.
An adjustment is a specific application of forces used to facilitate the body's correction of nerve interference.  The force must be given with the right amount of pressure in the proper direction at the right time.  While it is usually done with the Doctor's hands, adjusting instruments are used too.

Q. What is the advantage of having regular chiropractic adjustments?
A.
When you are physically healthy all your body parts are in their proper places, fitting precisely so that they can communicate with one another and are not interfering with the function of other body parts.

Your body is in a state of exquisite coordination and balance.  In this state you have abundant vitality, sensitivity, strength and joy.  You have a flexible, balanced body, you are able to breathe deeply and sleep deeply, you are refreshed and invigorated.  You have a higher resistance to fight illness and the energy to adapt to life's stresses and challenges.

Q. Can I adjust myself?
A.
No. A chiropractic adjustment is a specific force, applied in a specific direction, to a specific vertebra, and it is impossible to adjust yourself. When you or a friend crack or pop your back and neck, it will give temporary relief, but you have not actually adjusted the Subluxation, and it could be very dangerous.

Q. Why do my children need chiropractic care?
A.
The birth process can often be one of the most traumatic events of a child's life. The spine can often be injured during the delivery. Having your child checked by a chiropractor immediately after birth is a very wise decision. Spinal nerve interference from the birth process often becomes more serious as your child grows up. Blocked nerve pathways can lead to problems such as ear infections, hyperactivity, colds, colic, bedwetting and many other symptoms.

Your child's posture is an important indicator of spinal problems. Scoliosis is often caused by improper posture. By having your children checked at a young age, these problems might be prevented.

Children become involved in sports at a young age. These activities can often include minor injuries. When your children play, they are jumping, running, twisting, bumping and falling any number of times. Often they may become subluxated during these activities.

To minimize the chance of future health problems it is important to have your children checked by a chiropractor on a regular basis. Spinal hygiene should be part of your whole family's wellness lifestyle.

INFORMATION ON TORQUE RELEASE CHIROPRACTIC...

History of chiropractic | Torque Release | Find a Chiropractor | FAQ

The technique that Dr. Broker uses as her primary one is called Torque Release.  If you have been to the office you may have had an adjustment with her "clicker".  This is the technique behind that form of adjustment.

Non-Manipulative Adjustment: The emphasis is in communicating new corrective information through gentle touch or a light thrust by a hand held instrument.

• After each adjustment the body is given time to process the corrective input.

• Corrections don’t stop when you get off the table, but continue with your body’s movements and breathing.

• This process teaches and empowers your body to make more corrections and healing with ongoing care.

• Because analysis and correction are not limited to just the area of the pain or symptom, integration tends to be more complete and healing experiences are deeper in all areas of the body, mind and emotions.

The primary intent of this work is to progressively reduce blockages and tension in the entire spinal system, to release trapped unresolved patterns in the body/mind, and to facilitate reintegration of the nervous system, allowing a greater expression of one’s healing and performance capabilities.
